Cabin Rentals Near the Toccoa River

The Toccoa River runs cold and clear through the Blue Ridge mountains of north Georgia — and for a long stretch of summer, it is the social center of the region. Tubing on the upper Toccoa, fly fishing the trout water below Lake Blue Ridge, and the famous swinging bridge on the Benton MacKaye Trail are all anchor experiences of a Blue Ridge trip. Both Sababa Homes properties in Blue Ridge — Top of the World and Bella Emelia — sit a short drive from the river's most popular access points.

About Toccoa River

What you should know

The Toccoa is one of the rare rivers in the Southeast that flows north — eventually crossing the Tennessee state line, where it changes its name to the Ocoee. The upper section above Lake Blue Ridge is the tubing river: shallow, warm-enough in summer, and lined with outfitters who handle the put-in and shuttle for a half-day float. The lower Toccoa, below Blue Ridge Dam, is a different river entirely — cold, fast, and one of the better wild trout fisheries in the state. The Toccoa Swinging Bridge, a 270-foot suspension bridge on the Benton MacKaye Trail, is the unofficial photo stop of any Blue Ridge trip and an easy hike from the Shallowford Bridge area. Fly fishing guides operate year-round and can put first-timers on fish in a couple of hours; the river also supports kayak fishing and recreational paddling on the calmer stretches.

Tube the upper Toccoa

A 2–3 hour summer float with multiple outfitters in town handling tubes, life vests, and shuttle. The classic Blue Ridge afternoon.

Wild rainbow and brown trout in the tailwater below Blue Ridge Dam. Guided half-days are widely available; licenses are required.

04

Ride the Blue Ridge Scenic Railway

A 26-mile round trip along the Toccoa River valley on a restored vintage train. Fall leaf-peeping trips book out weeks ahead.

05
