March – May
Wildflowers, Waterfalls, and Open Trails
Spring is the mountain season most people overlook — which is exactly why it's so good. Full waterfalls, blooming trails, and rates well below peak.
Browse propertiesLate March through April is when the southern Appalachians do something spectacular: trillium, bloodroot, wild ginger, and Dutchman's breeches carpet the forest floor before the canopy leafs out and blocks the light. The Blue Ridge Trail system offers some of the best wildflower hiking in the eastern U.S. during this window, and crowds are a fraction of what arrives in fall. Daytime highs settle into the 60s and 70s by mid-April; evenings still call for a fire.
Broken Bow's spring is its own thing entirely. Dogwood and redbud bloom along Stevens Gap Road in late March and April, the Mountain Fork is at its high-water peak from snowmelt and spring rain — prime kayak and trout-fishing conditions — and the dogwood corridor through Beavers Bend State Park genuinely earns its reputation. The cabin our property Dogwood Days is named after blooms right outside the door.
Waterfalls peak in spring across both markets. Long Creek Falls, Helton Creek Falls, and DeSoto Falls near Blue Ridge thunder in April; in Broken Bow, the seasonal cascades along the David L. Boren trail run for a few weeks each spring before drying out. Rates are honestly lower than fall, the experience is just as beautiful, and you're booking into a period where availability is still reasonable.

What to do in Blue Ridge
Wildflower hike at Sosebee Cove
A half-mile loop near Blood Mountain that runs through one of the densest spring ephemeral displays in north Georgia — trillium, bloodroot, and Solomon's seal in early April.
Helton Creek Falls and DeSoto Falls
Two short, family-friendly waterfall hikes within an hour of Blue Ridge. Both run at full volume through April and into May.
Toccoa River trout season
Spring is the strongest stocking and hatch window on the Toccoa. Outfitters in town book guided half-days; the delayed-harvest section near Horseshoe Bend is at its best.
Mercier Orchards in bloom
Apple and peach trees flower in waves through late March and April. The orchards drive is genuinely beautiful at this stage — and the bakery is open year-round.
Downtown Blue Ridge patio season
The independent restaurants on East Main reopen patios as soon as evenings climb out of the 40s. A walkable downtown evening is at its best in April and May.

What to do in Broken Bow
Kayak the Mountain Fork at high water
April flows are the strongest of the year — the cypress slough sections below the dam are dramatic and shaded, and a half-day float from the spillway down to the state park is a classic spring trip.
David L. Boren Trail seasonal waterfalls
The 24-mile trail through Beavers Bend reveals seasonal cascades in March and April that disappear by late summer. Day-section access at the Cedar Bluff trailhead is straightforward.
Dogwood drives through Stevens Gap
Native dogwoods bloom along the road through the heart of Beavers Bend in late March and early April — one of the most photographed scenes in southeastern Oklahoma.
Trout fishing the Lower Mountain Fork
Cold tailwater from Broken Bow Dam keeps the river fishable year-round, but spring hatches make it the best time of year. Local guides run wading and float trips out of Hochatown.
Hochatown patio dinners
The Bavarian-style spots and barbecue joints on the main strip open up outdoor seating once nights stop dropping into the 30s. A pleasant first-evening plan after the drive in.

Common questions
Spring Cabin Rentals FAQ
When do wildflowers bloom in Blue Ridge, GA?
The main wildflower bloom runs late March through April. Trillium and spring ephemerals typically peak in early April at lower elevations. Higher-elevation wildflowers, including flame azalea, bloom later — often into May.
When do dogwoods bloom in Broken Bow?
Dogwoods and redbuds bloom in late March and early April along Stevens Gap Road through Beavers Bend State Park. The display is reliable but short — usually a 10–14 day window.
Is spring a good time to visit if we want to hike?
Absolutely. Spring offers some of the best hiking conditions of the year — mild temperatures, fewer people on the trails, and the forest in active bloom. The Appalachian Trail and local state park trails are open and well-maintained by March.
Does it rain a lot in the mountains in spring?
April is the wettest month in both markets, averaging roughly 4–5 inches of rainfall. Rain tends to come in bursts rather than all-day events. Pack a rain layer and don't let a forecast deter you — misty mountain mornings have their own beauty.
